The popular Te Karanga a Hape street party returns on Thursday 13 July to celebrate Matariki 2023 in distinctive Karangahape Road style!

This year’s event theme is
He Ara Matarau / Pathway of Diversity, which celebrates the kaleidoscope of cultures, identities, colours, sounds, flavours, unforgettable sights and sensory delights that combine to create the iconic, all-inclusive thoroughfare we love, Karangahape Road.


The Karangahape Road Business Association is working alongside a team of local event creatives to curate a full and fabulous programme of music, art, food, fashion, performances and workshops from 3pm onward on July 13th, the eve of the 2023 Matariki public holiday.

Halloween on Karangahape Road

Get your freak on this Halloween as Karangahape Road throws the Saturday night thriller to end them all!!!


On Saturday 29 October, Tāmaki Makaurau’s most notorious strip will be throbbing with killer parties, Halloween queens, and a decadent selection of delicious food and beverage offerings.


It’s an all-night disco bloodbath, with a line-up of parties to literally die for – including the bFM Halloween Party at Whammy, The Howl Down at Wine Cellar, Club Ritmo at SOAP, Queens of the Damned at G.A.Y, and the epic, extravagant Propaganda Halloween party at Studio.


Karangahape Road will be transformed with monstrous creations by ​​Catherine Ellis and Freya Burnett, contemporary spider dancers from the Dance Plant Collective, twisted trick or treaters from The Human Agency, and everybody’s favourite hi-voltage roller skaters, Hey! Macarena – plus, have your likeness captured forever by our very own poison-penned street caricaturist.


And whosoever shall be found, without the soul for getting down, must come and meet the K’ Road queens, and turn their nightmares into dreams!

Northern Line and Monster Valley present a night of murderous mayhem and spooky shenanigans, with terrifying tunes courtesy of DJ Killa Karl!

The Howl Down

Get ready for a good old fashioned HOWL DOWN! Come dressed in your spookiest wares, as there will be prizes for best dressed. It’s time for some ghoulish tunes - featuring Kendall Elise and the Bel-graves, Thee Golden Geese, and Little Weird.

Propaganda Halloween

Attention all sexy ghouls, slutty zombies, and wicked witches – New Zealand’s biggest gay party is back this Halloween with another extravagant, multi-room spectacular!


Taking over all levels of the newly renovated Studio The Venue, with surprise shows and Propaganda’s signature over-the-top production.

The following will take place at various locations along Karangahape Road. Including music, performance, costume competitions, a caricaturist, performances, face painting and markets.

Kra KoTo Kra & Afriky Dancers

📍 Starting at the Mobil Garage, ending on the Pocket Park Stage, top of Pitt Street

Kra KoTo Kra drumming ensemble and Afriky Dancers will perform on the move, leaving from the Mobil Garage to join more performers on Pitt Street’s Pocket Park Stage.


Shovaav

Shovaav is a DJ and percussionist, previously part of Kra KoTo Kra. The early stages of his set will fuse will the drummers.

Juan Balsani is respected in many fields - music being one of them. Originally from Argentina, now headlines New Zealand festivals and runs the music events brand Say No More.


Spider Dancers

Spider Dancers from Dance Plant Collective perform below the giant K Road spider and it's disco ball chain web.


Skating Tricksters

📍  Roaming Karangahape Road

Roller Skaters unleashed by Hey! Macarena will roam the strip. Watch out as their tricks are treats not to be missed.


Trick or Treat?

Trick or Treat, Karangahape Darlings? Performers from The Human Agency will roam the strip. But be warned: interacting with them could result in laughter, surprise and unexpected treasures


Halloween Caricaturist

📍  Roaming Karangahape Road

🕰  7pm – 10pm


Look out for Darren, a caricaturist from Bloomfield Art. He'll be roaming the strip, completing a drawing every 10 minutes. Drawings are free to take home. Post a photo of your caricature on Instagram, tagging @kroadnz, to be in to win a top Halloween prize.


DECORATING THE STRIP


Karangahape Road itself will be transformed with monstrous installations and activations by ​​Catherine Ellis and Freya Burnett.


The Pocket Park Stage on Pitt Street is getting a new underwater nightmare makeover, terrorised by a massive ten meter eel.


Within historic St Kevins Arcade, a massive web of chains will become home to the street’s own giant Glam Goth spider.


And keep an eye out for other monster animals lurking near the Carmen Jones side of the overbridge!



FREAKOUT on Karangahape Road is run by the KBA, and supported by Auckland Council and Link Alliance.
